The Ugly Truth was released amidst great fanfare. The advertisers took great care to keep the movie in the spot light for a long time. Unfortunately though, the movie itself didn’t do very well thanks to the very bizarre rezoning that it carried with it.
The logic was related to a woman finding the man of her dreams. Now according to this logic if you are a woman and you would like to find someone who maybe the one for you, you must first make sure that you are not a very successful person, you even be too smart, oh, and don’t forget, you can’t even be too stuck up with him.
Furthermore the movie tries to sell the idea that no matter what your salary cannot be more than the guy and that no matter how wise you are you have to act dumb in front of him. It also tried to sell the idea that a sleazy attitude will attract the man more towards the woman and the peak is when the woman releases the vagabond that she has been hiding inside her for many years. The men find this irresistible.
If you have read so far, you have watched the entire movie. It definitely looks like the writers have living in a different century altogether. The script was written by three ladies. Unfortunately for the ladies, the movie has just not seemed to do anything at the box office and did you know that Katherine Heigl is not only the lead but also one of the producers of the movie!
Abby (Katherine Heigl) produces a show on TV. She is put into a situation where she cannot avoid but will have to compete with Mike (Gerard Butler). Now Mike is supposed to have a very low opinion of women but he features in a part of Abby’s show giving advice on relationships. The shows TRP is obviously going through the roof because of his excellent advice. The old formula of making the lead pair hate each other has also been used in this movie.
In case you are going to see the bonding between both the stars, there is nothing to there to see. There is absolutely no chemistry. Mike’s dialogues seem pointless and many of his dialogues which are meant to be funny will only extract a groan from you.

This has now changed. The previous year, the Wall Street Journal ran a feature article about Asian American designers who have taken the world by storm. The first to make her mark was Vera Wang, and for some time she was the only important Asian American designer in the news. But she has now been joined by designers such as Thakoon Panichgul and Phillip Lim, Americans born in Thailand, whose work has become widely known.
Black American fashion designers, too, have come to the fore in the past couple of decades. Byron Lars, with a fashion design degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York, began with great promise in the mid-1980s, faltered somewhat in the 1990s, and has come back with his Byron Lars Beauty Mark line in the 2000s. Kevan Hall was fortunate enough to encounter fashion programs in his Detroit High School before attending the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles. He has been dressing celebrities and selling to well known fashion retailers for years, and in 2002 he launched his Kevan Hall collection.
There are several reasons why it’s important that these fashion designers be given the public acknowledgement they deserve. For one thing, it’s simply a fact that they deserve it, and it’s long overdue. Designers from visible minorities have not often been recognized as they should be, possibly due to racist assumptions about their work. Many have had to push against family expectations by not choosing more stable professions like medicine or law.
Yet these designers forged ahead, worked hard to get a fashion design degree, and finally gained recognition for their stellar work. This should be an inspiration to all aspiring designers.
